FAQ & Troubleshooting
Short answers to the questions we get most.
- Why did Kenso lower my weight?
Kenso drops a prescribed weight when your last session for that exercise didn't meet its progression strategy's bar to advance
- Why are my targets the same as last week?
A held prescription usually means the strategy is Manual, hasn't met its criteria to advance, or only moves on a fixed schedule
- I closed the app mid-workout. Where are my sets?
Sets are kept on your device and synced to the server as you go, so backgrounding the app during a workout doesn't erase them
- I reinstalled the app and lost an in-progress workout. Why?
A reinstall normally recovers your in-progress workout once you sign back in. A few specific cases are where sets can actually be lost
- The rest timer on my iPhone lock screen shows the wrong time
A fix has shipped for a bug where the lock-screen timer could show a different exercise's rest length. Update, then tell us if it persists
- Apple Health is connected but nothing is syncing
Check iOS data-access permissions per data type and your Kenso sync setting before assuming the connection is broken
- Why is a muscle marked fatigued when I feel fine?
The recovery map estimates fatigue from what you've logged for that muscle recently, not from how you feel right now
- Can I use my own program?
Yes. Build it manually, describe it in chat, import it from a photo or PDF, or bring it in from Hevy or Strong
- Do I need a full gym?
No. Kenso ships with a Home Gym location, and you can set up equipment variants for any program
- What happens if I miss workouts or take time off?
Nothing resets. Kenso isn't on a calendar schedule, so your next workout is whichever one follows the last one you finished
- What counts as a hard set?
A working set logged at an effort high enough to drive growth, credited to its primary muscle and partly to any secondary movers
- Why won't the coach tell me where a setting is?
The coach has no access to the app's screens or menus, so it declines UI questions and points you to support instead of guessing
- How do I log bodyweight or time-based exercises?
The same set row switches modes: a blank weight field for unweighted bodyweight reps, or a duration field instead of reps
- Can I train the same program at home and at the gym?
Yes. Set up both as training locations and give exercises a variant for each, so the program adapts without a rebuild
- Why does the app say "refresh if you see a stale workout"?
This appears when Kenso detects a session conflict and its automatic cleanup couldn't confirm with the server
- Why did my Strength Score drop?
The score reflects your recent lifts against your own baseline, so lighter sessions, missed reps, or time off can pull it down
- Why does Kenso want me to deload?
Deloads are either something you turn on yourself or a scheduled week you opted into with auto-progress, never a silent decision
- How do I change between pounds and kilograms?
A unit toggle in Settings switches display going forward, but it relabels existing history instead of converting the numbers
- Can I log different weights per side?
Not yet. Kenso logs one weight per set, so log the weaker side; a Unilateral setting corrects volume counting, not the weight field
