Before you log a set, Kenso already has a target weight and rep count waiting for you. That number comes from what you did last time on that exercise and the progression strategy assigned to it. You can always type over it.
Where to find it
Targets show on each set row in the logger before you tap it in. To see or change how an exercise progresses, open the ⋮ menu on the exercise card and tap Strategy.
What feeds the target
- Your last logged sets on that exercise: weight, reps, and effort.
- The progression strategy assigned to the exercise (see Progression strategies). Different strategies read your history differently: some add load once you hit the top of a rep range, others move every session, others react to how hard a set felt.
- The rep range set for that exercise, which is what "top of range" means for strategies that advance on reps.
- Any Auto-Progress cycle running on the program, which layers weekly changes on top of the strategy (see Auto-progress cycles).
- Deload, if it's toggled on for the exercise or the session (see Deloads).
When the target doesn't move
Kenso only advances a target when it's reasonably sure you're ready. For example, if you didn't hit last session's prescription, or an auto-regulated strategy read the last set as harder than intended, the next target holds instead of climbing. Holding isn't a bug; it's the app declining to push a number it can't back up yet. If a target dropped rather than held, see Why did my weight go down?.
Changing it yourself
You can always overwrite the weight or reps for a set by typing over the target. That override only applies to that set; it doesn't change the strategy or future targets. To change how the exercise progresses going forward, use Strategy in the exercise card's ⋮ menu; see Choosing a strategy per exercise.
Good to know
- Free accounts are locked to the Manual strategy, which never auto-regulates: you type your own weights every session. Every other strategy requires Pro.
- Manual strategy keeps the exact same sets, reps, and load every session until you change it yourself.
