You can change how any exercise progresses without leaving the workout. Open the exercise card's ⋮ menu, tap Strategy, and pick a different one: it applies to this workout and every session after, until you change it again.

Where to find it

In the logger, tap the ⋮ menu on an exercise card, then Strategy. This opens the exercise sheet directly to the strategy panel.

How it works

The panel lists every strategy except 5/3/1, since that one is set up at the program level, not per exercise (see 5/3/1). Tap a strategy to select it: the currently active one is marked. The label and short description shown match the full list in Progression strategies.

On program workouts, a "Main lift" toggle sits above the strategy list in the same panel. Turning it on applies the program's main-lift progression strategy to this exercise instead of its own assignment.

If you pick Top Set + Backoff, a "Customize…" link appears below the list. Tapping it opens a panel where you can set the top set's target reps and effort, and the backoff sets' count, reps, and load. See Top Set + Backoff for what each field does.

Pro gating

Changing to anything other than Manual requires Pro. If you're on a free account and tap a locked strategy, Kenso shows a prompt to upgrade instead of applying it. Free accounts can still use Manual, which means you set your own weights and reps every session with no auto-regulation.

Good to know

  • The change is exercise-specific: it doesn't touch any other exercise in the program.
  • Switching to a strategy that prescribes its own set pattern, such as Top Set + Backoff, rebuilds that exercise's set rows for the session and clears any weights you'd already entered for it. Switching between strategies that don't prescribe a specific pattern (Double Progression, Linear, Manual, Score-based) keeps your existing rows in place.
  • Swapping strategy mid-program can change what "advance" means for that exercise going forward, since each strategy reads your history differently. See How Kenso picks your weights for what feeds a target.
