Every exercise has a rep range attached, which sets what "top of range" means for strategies that advance based on reps, and what a set is aiming for more broadly. Kenso offers a set of standard ranges, or you can type a custom one.

Where to find it

An exercise's rep range is set in Program Builder when adding it. During a workout, tap the REPS column header on the exercise card to open a "Rep Range" drawer and change it there.

The standard ranges

Kenso's built-in ranges, roughly from strength-focused to endurance-focused: 2-4, 3-5, 6-8, 8-12, 10-15, and 12-15 reps. 8-12 is the default when nothing else is specified.

Custom ranges

If none of the standard options fit, you can enter a custom minimum and maximum instead. Kenso validates it: the minimum has to be at least 1 rep, the maximum can't be unreasonably high, and the range can't be so wide it stops meaning anything. Recently used custom ranges are saved so you can pick them again quickly instead of retyping.

How it's used

Strategies like Double Progression advance once you hit the top of the assigned range; strategies built around a specific range, like Top Set + Backoff or Pyramid, suggest one when you select them in the builder, which you can still override.

Some strategies prescribe their own per-set rep pattern and don't let you edit the range from the REPS header at all. Tapping it shows "Rep range is set by this strategy" instead of opening the drawer. To use a different range, change the exercise's strategy in Program Builder first.

Good to know

  • Changing an exercise's rep range doesn't retroactively change what past sets were logged against; it only affects future targets.
  • A custom range still needs to make sense as a min-max pair: a single fixed rep count is also accepted if you want every set at exactly one number.
  • The same drawer switches to a Duration picker with time presets instead of rep presets for exercises tracked by time rather than reps.
