A location variant is a version of a program day that belongs to one training location only. Kenso creates one automatically the first time you change an exercise for a workout while that location is selected, and from then on that location uses its own version instead of the program's template.
Where to find it
Location variants aren't a screen you open directly: they're created automatically when you edit exercises while a non-default training location is active, and you see them named when reviewing mid-workout changes.
How a variant gets created
If you swap, add, remove, or reorder an exercise while training at a location other than the program's default, Kenso doesn't touch the shared template. Instead it creates (or updates) that location's own copy of the day. The template and every other location's version are unaffected.
What changes once a variant exists
From that point on, whenever you train that workout at that location, Kenso shows the location's version, not the template. Editing the template later (through Edit a Program) won't reach that location's variant, and edits made at the variant's location won't appear anywhere else.
Good to know
- Each training location can end up with its own independent version of the same workout day. Full Gym and Home Gym versions of "Push Day," for example, can diverge completely.
- There's no way in the app today to reset a location's variant back to match the template: if a location's version has drifted from what you want, the fix is to make the same edits again at that location.
- Deleting a training location deletes its variant along with it. Any exercises you'd changed for that location fall back to the program default, and Kenso warns you about this before the delete goes through.
- See Training Locations for setting up and switching between locations, and Edit a Program for what "Save to Program" does with a location-scoped change.
